Following a recent Instagram Story looking at resources for where to find animation inspiration, I figured I’d put together a blog post listing the resources and some notes about how they are helpful. This is a live post and grow as we look at more inspiration resources.
- Vimeo in general
- An incredible collection of work, it is very easy to find inspiration for a wide range of creative styles.
- Check out the categories and subcategories to narrow down what you are looking for as it can be overwhelming the amount of talent that exists on Vimeo
- There is a lot of art and commercial work on here which means you will almost definitely find something you like
- Dribbble in general
- A hub for designers and animators to display their work
- Look for shots labeled “gif” to see some motion
- Any moving shots on here will be very short form
- Given account access to this site is curated and invite-only the quality if outstanding
- Instagram hashtag
- Follow me 🙂
- Since raising the video limit to 1 min this has been an incredible tool for animators and motion deisgners to showcase work and therefore a stellar resource for inspiration
- Given the open and wide reach of instagram it also means there is some searching through to find the REALLY good stuff
- Some hashtag recomendations include:
- #mograph – Standing for MO-tion GRAPH-ics, this is much more of an industry term and therefore tends to be professionals showcasing their work. It has a great mix of 3D, 2D, character and experimental work
- #motiongraphics – This is a bit busier of a hashtag but also full of gems. There will be overlap with the mograph hashtag.
- #animation – This one is a total mixed bag, its busy and messy, with some posts that are completely unrelated being tagged. However, the term animation can bring out different styles of work to those under #mograph and #motiongraphics.
