Ladies and Gentlemen, Day 3 has arrived. I’ll let you see the GIF first and then I’ll ask you what you think I did this morning.

Day3 - Lifting — Day 3 – Do you even lift, bro?

Well, can you guess? Core day at the gym.

I took today as an opportunity to play with Rubberhose. I’ve only really used it a couple times, generally opting for Duik instead. I do really love this Plugin though and how quickly this one was able to be put together (less than 15 mins) is a testament to the usability of this little gem.

I also whipped out OC eyes, another plugin that makes character animation just way too easy.

Day 2 – Lightbulb

I thought Day 1 was hard to find inspiration for this #15minmograph challenge. This time I had to go searching for assets before anything even came to mind. Then I had a lightbulb moment (see what I did there).

I knew I wanted to play with different ways of applying textures to a piece. I got my hands on a slate texture and a light bulb graphic from Pixabay, dumped a few keyframes on the vector assets and then started playing with the texture layer. Adding grades and effects to contrast and harshen it, and then playing with the blend modes on each layer before timer went and it was pencils down. Texture effects is a tool I commonly forget to play with in client work and I think this small task has probably brought it back to me as a go-to effect for giving vector animation a great organic feel.

Day 1 – The eye

So here we are Day 1 of the #15minmograph challenge and I had no idea what to do. I foresee this becoming a pattern, keen as a bean but no ideas to speak of. I figured I would just open up Coolors.co (this is where I am building my colour palette for each day), pick some colours, open After Effects and hope inspiration would hit somewhere along the way.

At this stage of the challenge, I have no idea what I can accomplish in 15 mins so I don’t know how simple or ambitious I can be. Finally, after about 5 mins of ticking timer and adding a solid layer, I figured I would just build an eye. With simple shape layers and masks, looping some keyframes and toying with the value graphs I was able to do it. The timer went off with just one more graph untouched so I left it. This isn’t about being perfect, in fact, it is quite the opposite, be messy, be quick and make something, so here it is, The Eye:
