Recruitment campaign

09.30.2015 by Hayley Rollason //

This video campaign was aimed at informing and enticing potential candidates to work for NPS MedicineWise, an independent, not-for-profit and evidence-based medical organisation. The client approached me with the project a week or so before the intended shoot dates. As this was when I was still working full time and the shooting was scheduled for during the work week, as well as some shoots interstate, I jumped on as editor and production manager, sourcing and managing production crews in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra.

A campaign of 11 videos, we meet people in varying roles and different cities within the organisation. Wishing to highlight the rewarding and flexible nature of working arrangements NPS MedicineWise offers the crews interviewed 12 staff members in the colourful and friendly offices.

The crew that we collaborated with includes Ook Tong based in Sydney, Adrian Jackson in Melbourne and Ian Lumsden of Gatecrasher Media in Canberra. All teams were professional and delightful to work with delivering quality content to edit with swiftly, and only glowing feedback coming from the participants and client.

The biggest challenge with this edit was really with initial organisation of the footage, with it being quite a big series and a lot of coverage I had to really ensure the time was taken to import, sort and back up the footage in a clear and helpful way. This made the creative work far easier and quicker. This also meant when it came to client edits it was simple to identify shots and sections based on the interview we were addressing.

TECH SPECS:

  • Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro with graphics and animation completed in Adobe Illustrator and After Effects.
  • Audio clean up and levels in Adobe Audition.
  • Music sourced from Premium Beats.

The best of #reversefilmplots

08.22.2015 by Hayley Rollason //

You may have, or maybe you haven’t, seen a fun hashtag that had a sudden reemergence on Twitter on Friday night, #reversefilmplot. The rules are:

1. Think of a movie

2. Reverse the plot

3. Hashtag and tweet

4. Laugh along

It’s time for some #Friday fun! Tweet us your best #ReverseFilmPlots and we’ll RT our favourites.

— blinkbox (@blinkbox) September 27, 2013

Originally tweeted by @blinkbox a couple of years ago, Friday nights hashtag party yielded some really clever and funny results. I had a crack at it myself and it was not an easy task. Just thinking of a movie that wasn’t already in the feed was proving difficult. It wasn’t even as though there were many films covered, I was just struck with a frustrating blank, similar to when you are trying to think of a word and someone tries to ‘help’ you by offering alternates and then that is all you can think of. I finally got there with the three below.

A one-armed James Franco finds an arm under a rock in the desert and attaches it to himself #reversefilmplots https://t.co/RBd19vlITi

Slick Transitions – Summit 26

07.25.2015 by Hayley Rollason //

Lately I have been really enjoying the tutorials (also known as Summits) by a motion graphics artist, Matt Jylkka, of Mt. Mograph.

While his presentation style is a little “I don’t care”, like self-deprecating teenager, the content is great. They are long, one hour, tutorials that delve fully into popular motion graphics programs.

Summit 26 is an hour long adventure onto Illustrator and After Effects and how to use basic AE motion tools to transition between 4 common items. Ones that are often used in mographs. With tools along the way such as graph editor and of course the “F9 for easy ease” shortcut, you will learn a lot about After Effect and basic principals of motion graphics.

Here is my attempt at Slick Transitions. Enjoy.
